Please note! Course description is confirmed for two academic years, which means that in general, e.g. Learning outcomes, assessment methods and key content stays unchanged. However, via course syllabus, it is possible to specify or change the course execution in each realization of the course, such as how the contact sessions are organized, assessment methods weighted or materials used.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Course ILOs:   After attending the module, the students - are familiar with the MATLAB and Python environments and can perform basic operations, such as simple programming, importing data and plotting graphics - are able to create and combine variables (scalars, vectors, matrices) - are familiar with basic numerical methods, such as numerical differentiation and integration integrals, approximate derivatives, and solving linear systems - can use MATLAB and Python solver(s) for solving differential equations

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

This is the Basic course for learning MATLAB and Python. The usual pattern of teaching/learning MATLAB and Python has been changed from a programming view point to a mathematical one. The idea is that by thinking about mathematical problems, students are prodded into learning MATLAB and Python for the purpose of solving the problem at hand.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Home assignments, PASS/FAIL

Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Lectures/Exercises 24 h Independent studying, homeworks 32 h
