LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • You will gain experience of art and become familiar with exhibition spaces, museums, and galleries in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
  • You will find ways to describe, put into words and structure your own relationship with the contents, practices and presentation of art. You can write an exhibition report describing your experiences and thoughts.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    During the course, you will visit at least three self-selected art exhibitions. Each of the three selected exhibitions will be the subject of a personal reflective exhibition report consisting of three parts:

    1. Notes taken during the exhibition. Notes can be taken by writing, sketching, colouring, and by taking photos. Maximum length 2–3 pages (A4).
    2. The text reflects on one's own experience of the exhibition, and/or the relationship with the experienced art by relying on notes. The experience can also be reflected on, for example, in relation to other art, one's own art making, and current topics related to the exhibition. Report length 1 page (A4).
    3. The exhibition report must include a photograph that also serves as an evidence of the exhibition visit. It can be, for example, a self-portrait in front of a work in an exhibition.

    Finally, all three exhibition reports are attached to a single pdf file, which is returned to MyCourses according to the instructions.

Assessment Methods and Criteria
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    A pdf file returned to MyCourses according to instructions, containing three exhibition stories from three different exhibitions. The file must be submitted by the end of the course. Each exhibition report consists of three parts:

    • Notes (2-3 pages text, sketches, photos)
    • Report (1 page text)
    • A photograph that serves as an evidence of an exhibition visit, such as a self-portrait in front of a work in an exhibition.

Workload

    Independent exhibition visits to museums and galleries as well as making exhibition reports according to instructions.
