LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course the student will (i) be familiar with and inspired by lignocellulosic biomaterials, including cellulose fibers, micro- and nanofibrillar cellulose, cellulose derivatives, lignin, bark extractives and novel combinations of these, (ii) understand the basics of material sustainability, (iii) know basic methods and safety rules in explorative bio-based material research (iv) have experience on interdisciplinary working environment in practice and (v) is able to plan and implement an indipendent ChemArts project.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course consists of introductory lectures, hands-on assignments at the laboratory, and final presentation of the experiments. Lectures are focusing on bio-based materials, material research and design. Assignments and seminar presentation will be conducted in groups.

    Registration:

    A maximum of 48 students will be accepted on the course. The following prioritization principles will be followed in accepting the students:

    1. the course is part of the student's compulsory studies,
    2. balanced student distribution between schools,
    3. random selection.

    A course implementation may be cancelled if the number of students enrolled to the course implementation does not meet the required minimum of five students. In the case of cancelled course implementations, the students enrolled to them must be provided with an alternative way of completing the course or be advised to take some other applicable course.
