  • Welcome to the photography workshop series organized by Materials Platform!


    The aim to provide basic knowledge of how to shoot good quality scientific images and videos.The course will provide a step-by-step guide on how to shoot photographs and videos for scientific use, whether it is an online publication, a print media, a presentation or a poster. 

    This course will go through the whole photography workflow in a practical level: the aim is to provide a step-by-step guide to participants and show them how to shoot better quality images for the scientific use whether it is for online publications, print media, presentation or poster.

    Together with professional photography teacher Tiina Puputti, the participants will go through the photography essential elements and use them right away during the hands-on sessions.  The workshop consists of four sessions (5 hours each), which include theoretical lectures, practical photo shoot demonstrations (3 hours), workshop and image feedback (2 hours).

    Practicalities of the course:

    • Please be on time! We are starting at 12.00 sharp and will try to keep the schedule as there is a lot of information that we want to share with you.
    • We are planning the video-recording and photographing this workshop series for the benefits of Aalto University and our research community. Therefore we are notifying you all about this activity. While participating in this course you agree to be video-recorded and filmed as a part of an event carried out within the Aalto University Materials Platform. Video lecture materials will be kept entirely for the use of Aalto University researchers and staff. Promotional materials that might be developed throughout the course might be visible for a broader audience. All rights will remain into Aalto University.
    • Having your own camera is not mandatory but highly recommended. We will provide a few Canon cameras that could be used in groups during the assignments, but there are very few, so please, try to find your own camera to work with and bring it with you.
    • Light snacks and coffee/tea will be ordered for the break. Please, notify us if you have any food allergies beforehand.
