Topic outline

  • Welcome to Biolab III laboratory course!

The course comprises two independent projects. In both projects the participants will work in pairs. In addition, there will be reporting, assignments and presentations during the course.

In the first project we will use baker's yeast for expression of a therapeutic protein. We will explore a strategy to increase cellular productivity by the targeted manipulation of the protein folding process. Within the three first weeks we will cover the whole work flow - from generating new yeast strains to analyzing the final strains. The work in this project will be done according to protocols and predefined schedule.

In the second project, we will use BioBricks to build expression constructs in E. coli. The project will be planned and conducted more freely in pairs within the given result requirements and time frames. A goal of the project is also to familiarize you with a software used for planning of molecular cloning.
