Topic outline

  • General

    • Practicalities

      The course consists of exercises, a course project, and an exam. To pass the course, you will need to pass the project. The exercises contribute 50% of the grade, and the exam is also 50%. This is the recommended way to take (and pass) the course.

      Alternatively, you may pass the course by only taking a hard exam with more problems.

      Lecturer: Antti Hannukainen, M308
      Assistant: Topi Kuutela, M330a

      Schedule

      The course runs for 12 weeks, from 09.01.2019 to 04.04.2019. There will be no contact teaching during the exam week of the third period (week 7, i.e. 11.02-17.02.).

      Roughly the first 8 weeks (until 28.02.2019) will consist of contact teaching periods, containing lectures and exercise sessions in computer classrooms. Keep an eye on announcements about the contact teaching session locations.

      Roughly three weeks following the contact teaching are reserved for project work, done in groups of 2-3 students.

      The project works will be presented on the final week of the course.

      Grading

      The course is graded either by a combination of course work and exam, or by a brutally difficult exam alone.

      Grade = (project pass/fail) * (0.5 * exam + 0.5 * exercises).
