Topic outline

  • Welcome to Biolab III laboratory course!

Please go through the most updated version of Aalto corona instructions:

    https://www.aalto.fi/en/aalto-university/internal-instructions-related-to-coronavirus

The lab work will take place in C305. On the first lab day we will get you from the Chemistry building main lobby if you don't know that location.

The course comprises two independent projects. In both projects the participants will mainly work in pairs. In addition, there will be reporting, assignments and presentations/discussions during the course. As we have a capacity limit in the teaching laboratory we might have to divide the class into two working groups (see preliminary scheduling on this page).

In the first project you will use baker's yeast for expression of a therapeutic protein. Within the three to four first weeks you will cover the whole work flow - from generating new yeast strains to analyzing the final strains. The work in this project will be done according to protocols and predefined schedule.

In the second project, you will use BioBricks to build expression constructs in E. coli. The project will be planned and conducted more freely in pairs within the given result requirements and time frames.

Please be aware that during corona times we must follow the Aalto level restrictions and instructions so changes to course schedule and content might take place.
