Topic outline

    • Describe the project focus: What data you will be using, potentially which method you plan to exploit and what you want to find out (Questions you expect to answer from the study)

      Approximately 1/4 page

    • Describe the motivation for the study and a more detailed study/research plan: What data you will be using, potentially which method you plan to exploit and what you want to find out (Questions you expect to answer from the study)

      Approximately 1 page  (+ 1/4 page abstract)

Please expand on the existing document. Necessary changes to the previous assignments (e.g. changes in the approach or study plan in the course of the project are to be updated in previous assignment texts (e.g. abstract))

    • Video presentation (approx. 5 min) describing the project idea and status.

Please cover what you intend to do, which algorithms or other methods you intend to use and what data you are using.

In particular, please see this as a report and in particular report on any problems/issues you identified. One purpose of this report is also for me to understand if everything runs smoothly or if there is any unsolved issues that need attention.

    • Describe the state of the art and reluated studies: What have others been doing and how is this different from your study. A good measure is to bring up 7+ papers and briefly discuss their relation to your study. Note that a good state-of-the-art discussion should include also very recent work.

Approximately 1-2 pages (+ 1 page  introduction and 1/4 page abstract)

Please expand on the existing document. Necessary changes to the previous assignments (e.g. changes in the approach or study plan in the course of the project are to be updated in previous assignment texts (e.g. abstract, introduction))

    • Describe the experimental study design (if applicable) and work plan, as well as nature of the data: Technical details, data collected, features utilized, classification approach, environmental settings, size of the data set, ...

Which algorithms are you planning to use, which features and further parameters.

Approximately 1-2 pages (+ 1-2 pages related work and 1 page  introduction and 1/4 page abstract)

Please expand on the existing document. Necessary changes to the previous assignments (e.g. changes in the approach or study plan in the course of the project are to be updated in previous assignment texts (e.g. abstract, introduction, related work))

    • Presentation (video): Share your insights on a specialized topic with other students in the course.

Note: The upload limit in Mycourses is 100MB. If this is too small for your video, please provide a link to the video instead.

      The presentation shall be

      • comprehensive (introduction/overview for other students working potentially in other fields);
      • informative (explain concepts, not all details are important)
      • tutorial-style (focus on understanding, activate the audience (for instance, interactive parts; in some cases, hands-on experience is good too.)

Guidelines: Try to teach the audience about your topic and work towards take-aways the audience did not know before. In general, motivate the problem well; make it easy to understand but not trivial; transport sufficient detail to understand the concept (not necessarily every detail - the concept is most important; just throwing in buzzwords is not enough). Since this is a presentation-type assignment, reflect on your way of presenting: e.g. attractive slides, presented in interesting way, trying to activate your audience.

    • Video presentation (approx. 5 min) describing the project progress and status.

Please cover what you did so far, which algorithms or other methods you use and what data you are using.

In particular, please see this as a report and in particular inform on any problems/issues you identified or that surfaced during your project. One purpose of this report is also for me to understand if everything runs smoothly or if there is any unsolved issues that need attention.

    • A1 poster (pdf): Describe (a) the motivation of the study and data utilized; (b) potential challenges or special issues encountered (c) approach/algorithm used and (d) results achieved and conclusion.

      What is an Academic Poster?

Posters are widely used in the academic community.  Research posters summarize information or research concisely and attractively to help publicize it and generate discussion. The poster is usually a mixture of a brief text mixed with tables, graphs, pictures, and other presentation formats. For presentation, the presenter stands by the poster display while other people can come and view the presentation and interact with the author.

      What makes a good poster?
      • Important information should be readable from about 10 feet away
      • Title is short and draws interest
      • Word count of about 300 to 800 words
      • Text is clear and to the point
      • Use of bullets, numbering, and headlines make it easy to read
      • Effective use of graphics, color and fonts
      • Consistent and clean layout
      • Includes acknowledgments, your name and institutional affiliation
      Where to begin?
      Answer these three questions:
      1. What is the most important/interesting/astounding finding from my research project?
      2. How can I visually share my research with others?
      3. Should I use charts, graphs, photos, images?

      • (if you know of others, please let me know - I am happy to share here)

The poster will be printed and available for you to present on 07.02.2020.

    • Describe the results achieved from the study and conclusion: What findings could you achieve? Could the initial questions be answered? Any new/unexpected findings or open questions? Conclusion: Your final summary/conclusion and interpretation of the results achieved; Potentially write about lessons learned through the study (something you did not expect before working with the data or takeaways for somebody working with similar data).

By 28.03. a preliminary document can be submitted to support the feedback discussion on preliminary results.

Approximately 2-3 pages (+ 1-2 pages experimental design and 1-2 pages related work and 1 page  introduction and 1/4 page abstract)

Please expand on the existing document. Necessary changes to the previous assignments (e.g. changes in the approach or study plan in the course of the project are to be updated in previous assignment texts (e.g. abstract, introduction, related work, experimental design))
