This workspace is for students doing their Master's Thesis. The space provides time for the initial meeting, meetings with the supervisor, and tasks related to the diploma thesis process, such as applying for confirmation of the topic of the thesis from the Degree Programme Committee. The thesis can be done following the instructions of the School of Electrical Engineering. The thesis is done in parallel with the course ELEC-E0210 Master's Thesis Process. The Writing clinic is available for the student to assist in producing English text. For text verification, Turnitin is available, which compares the produced text with an already existing database and looks for similarities. Thesis is submitted to MyCourses for review by Turnitin.

The final version of the thesis is submitted to a separate return box, where the similarity report is generated and the paper is archived in Turnitin's student paper repository so as to protect it against plagiarism.

If you have yet not found a Master's Thesis job offering, you can visit department's Open Positions for opportunities.

The process to complete the Master’s Thesis:

    1. Agree on the topic with the supervisong professor and advisor(s): The topic can be found from current research projects, it can be offered from industry, or it can be proposed by the student. It is strongly recommended to have an initial Master's Thesis meeting with the supervisor and the advisor(s) of the thesis. Agree about the thesis with a document (it can be an email or minutes of the initial meeting).
    2. Apply for Master’s thesis topic approval: You should apply for approval of the thesis topic as soon as you start the thesis process. Remember to apply in time, the thesis cannot be approved in the same meeting with the topic. The topic is approved by the Degree Program Committee, which gathers regularly during the semesters. Nominal target time to carry out the Master's Thesis work is six months of work. It is possible to work part time so that, e.g., the duration becomes 12 months with 50-% working time.
    3. Write the Master’s thesis. Help is available at Writing clinic up to 8 hours per student. Supportive course "ELEC-E0210 Master's Thesis Process” is mandatory for students who started from 2018 onward.
    4. Give a Master's Thesis presentation. The presentation is held at the department's research seminar and should be 20 minutes in duration. 10 minutes is reserved for discussion after the presentation. Remember to give the presentation early enough so that there is enough time to include the improvements and corrections risen based the discussion at the seminar.
    5. Apply for the approval of your Master’s Thesis. If more than one year has passed since the topic approval, the topic needs to be approved again before approval of the thesis.
10 minuuttia on varattu keskusteluun. Muista pitää esitys riittävän ajoissa, jotta on aikaa sisällyttää esiin nousseet parannukset ja korjaukset seminaarin keskustelun perusteella.
    5. Hae diplomityön hyväksyntää. Jos aiheen hyväksymisestä on kulunut yli vuosi, aihe on hyväksyttävä uudelleen ennen opinnäytetyön hyväksymistä.

Examples of properties of a good Master's Thesis are given below. A thesis fulfilling the quality aspects would be given grade three. More accurate examples can be found from here.
