Welcome to our course on Strategic IT Management! During the course, we will cover two broad topics. First, we will address some of the fundamental issues related to governance of IT, starting with basic frameworks on how to generate business value through IT. In terms of specific governance decisions, we will talking about outsourcing decisions, virtual work arrangements, how to harness the benefits of structured data and digital artefacts in general. In this first part of the course, students are assigned a teaching case on Tieto (or TietoEvry as it's called today). The second topic on the course is related automation and artificial intelligence. Here, we will discuss some of the key aspects of automation of knowledge work and different forms of artificial intelligence. We will also take a look at how organizations find it increasingly difficult to discontinue their legacy systems. In this second part, students are assigned a teaching case on Nokia and their AI system called Telco AI.
The course will be offered in hybrid mode, meaning that I will be at class teaching but a zoom link will be provided so that students can participate in virtual mode.
