Topic outline

  • The course is organized partially remotely. The lectures are prerecorded and published at the Materials section of the course's MyCourses homepage. On Wednesday at 12.15-14.00 (the latter lecture time in Sisu), there is a contact teaching questions and answers session in M237 starting on November 10. A weekly exercise session is held on Thursday at 10.15-12.00 in classroom A1 beginning on November 11 (no session on November 4). A Zulip-chat is provided for questions and discussion outside the contact sessions at ms-e1652.zulip.cs.aalto.fi

The students are assumed to participate actively in the course by weekly returning solutions to exercise problems. Half of the grade is based on the exercises and a half on a "streamlined" final online exam at 9.00-12.00 on Monday, December 13. If the time is inconvenient for you, contact the lecturer and the assistant via email.

The preliminary timetable is as follows:

    • Week 1: Introduction and motivation
    • Weeks 2-3: Linear multi-step methods
    • Week 4: Runge-Kutta methods
    • Week 5: Parabolic PDEs
    • Week 6: Hyperbolic PDEs

    Lecturer: Nuutti Hyvönen (first.last@aalto.fi)
