Welcome to join the course Explorative Information Visualization!

Please check the syllabus for more information about the course contents & plans.

My name is Tomi Kauppinen, and I am super happy to run the Explorative Infoviz course this Fall 2021 with you. Seems that we have a full house with tens of students signed up.

Briefly my context is that I am head of Aalto Online Learning, and a cognitive systems researcher & information visualiser.

In the course we will use online examples, tools and articles and then have seven (7) creative sessions via zoom to discuss and work together. Traditionally I have organised the course at our fantastic Design Factory with sofas and workshop style - I will do my best to bring that spirit to zoom :)

Our zoom room is  https://aalto.zoom.us/j/64193573819, so just click on it at our session times, or feel free to use it as our course room for discussions with your peers any time.

For the course I recorded short podcasts on information visualisation, please give them a listen at SoundCloud . The podcasts are about four important aspects for creating information visualisations: stories, time, space and theme.

I have also been a guest about Information Visualization in Sprint to Success with Design Thinking podcast hosted by Sabba N. Quidwai and in Hej Framtid podcast hosted by Lena Gumaelius. Feel free to use these as supportive learning materials for the course.

Our updated course schedule is as follows. This schedule will also be updated to Sisu by the administration and appear then in myCourses course site as well.
