Tue 17 May, 9:00-12:00 (NOTE PLACE! Water Building Lecture Hall 286, Tietotie 1E)
Three hour session introducing you to the IWRM principles and the Mekong River Basin as well as providing an introduction to the actual Mekong IWRM exercise. We will also divide you into the three thematic groups, so be present!

The Mekong IWRM exercise
The exercise on Mekong IWRM introduces you to the concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and its key themes. For more information on IWRM, see GWP's website and its relevant publications (particularly GWP 2000 report) as well as information on IWRM in the UN's SDGs monitoring website, including UN-Water guide on monitoring SDG6 as well as SDG6 Progress Report on IWRM. Also read carefully through the Tuesday's Contact Session's slides.
As a practical context, the exercise focuses on the operation of Cambodia’s Lower Sesan 2 hydropower dam, including its links to local and national level as well as to the transboundary Mekong River. The operation of the dam is looked at from three complementary themes related to Integrated Water Resources Management i.e. IWRM: economic, social and environmental aspects.
The Mekong IWRM exercise consists of the following four phases that you must all do to complete the exercise successfully:
- Introduction to the exercise during Contact Session on 17.5
- Independent Work 17.-20.5 (DL Fri 20.5 at noon)
- IWRM Session on Friday 20.5
- Personal Reflection by Monday 23.5. (DL Mon 23.5 evening)
The three key literature related to the exercise can be downloaded below:
Submit your Independent Work and your Personal Reflection to the submission box available below.
Note that in order to be able to do your Independent Work, you must know your theme (environmental, social, economic): these are defined during Tuesday's Contact Session. If you were missing on Tuesday, check your theme from the revised slides and contact Marko if you don't find your theme.
Fri 20 May, 13:00-16:00 (NOTE PLACE! Water Building Lecture Hall 286, Tietotie 1E)
The Mekong IWRM exercise culminates in the IWRM Session on Friday, where you will decide together on optimal operation of the case study dam. For more details, see the Mekong IWRM Exercise Instructions above.
Note that Friday's session is organised only live and it is not possible to attend it online over Teams.

During the week: Continue working on case study task reports of yours (individual work).
