LEARNING OUTCOMES
After successfully completing this course, students should be able to understand the properties of different yarn materials and basic weave structures as well as some of their derivates, and find her or his own way of expression. In addition, the student should be able to understand the principals of designing woven fabrics on shaft looms as well as the basic shaft loom functions and be familiar with computer aided design (Weave point -programme).

Content

Students make a collection of woven samples based on a task involving storytelling and individual artistic expression. Students learn about the basics in woven structures, textile materials and the techniques, processes and practices of weaving. Responsible consumbtion an production is discussed in the context of woven textile. The following structures are taught in the course lectures: Plain weave, twill, satin as well as their derivates, double weave and compound structures.

Attendance policy 80% required on lectures, critics and tutoring sessions.
The course is suitable for students with different backgrounds and experience in woven fabrics. Beginners are welcome as well as students with advanced knowledge in woven structures and the weaving practice. The course can be taken as part of the Experimental Textile Design course.
