    This is a supporting course for the Chinese 1 course. Students learn approximately 150 new characters and study vocabulary related to the Chinese 1 course.

    Learning Outcomes:  

    This is a supporting course for Chinese 1. Students learn approximately 150 new characters and study vocabulary related to the course Chinese 1. It is recommended to take both courses simultaneously, if possible.

    Study material:

    吃了吗 Chi le ma? (Kiinan peruskurssi / a course in basic Chinese)

    The book is used for the courses Chinese 1 to Chinese 4. 

    The teacher will upload the material for the assignments. However, please note that detailed grammar explanations, as well as vocabulary, can be found in the coursebook Chi le ma. 

    Please note that you are required to write sentences. Therefore, please review the grammar parts yourself, if you are not taking the course Chinese 1

    Course content: Chi le ma textbook chapters 1-3 vocabulary, texts, and grammar.

    Assessment methods and criteria: 

    1. Self-study
    2. Assignments 
    3. Written final examination at the university, room and time TBC

    One Meeting: Zoom meeting: 18.1.2022   08:00-09:30

    (The meeting is not compulsory, but if you have not learned characters yet, it is strongly recommended to participate; it will be a simple introduction to Chinese characters)

    Written exam: 8.4.2022, 12:00 - 13:30 

    The room at the university premises will be communicated later by email. 

    You do not have to register for the test separately.

    Exam content:
    - recognize Chinese characters and write the corresponding pinyin (syllable + tone)
    - write characters according to the given pinyin or meaning
    - write characters according to the correct stroke order / stroke direction 
    - complete sentences with the given Chinese characters
    translate English sentences into Chinese characters
    - recognize the most common radicals (presented in the book) and understand their meaning
    - understand and produce text within the range of the vocabulary and grammar presented in chapters 1-3 of the coursebook
