Welcome to the first course in the BA Design (English medium) programme! This course will be run mainly online, with some studio work in Väre (Otaniementie 14). Please register for the Aalto Zoom software and download the app. https://www.aalto.fi/en/services/zoom-quick-guide

General Discussion Forum
How We Work:
Each week involves various tasks and different skills, from learning CAD software, to sketching out design ideas and choosing and refining design concepts, to reading about design and maker culture, discussing it and reflecting on your own work. The Weekly Assignments (graded 1/5) and tasks support you in learning about and experiencing the design process, communicating and justifying your design decisions, and exploring the wider cultural context in which designers operate. The weekly Assignments and schedules are found in each Week section here in MyCourses.
Teaching and tutoring sessions are online (see the Zoom links section). Väre workshop introductions and exercises (mechatronics and 3D printing) are held in small groups in the workshops. Full attendance is important.
We use MyCourses as the main course platform. Besides submitting the weekly Assignments, you will document your work on your own ‘Wiki’ page in the Project Wiki section, which is not viewable for the public but it is available for all course participants to view. (You may also document your work on your own blogs or github/gitlab accounts but this is optional.) For course discussion and questions, we will use the forum “General Discussion” on the course front page. Please ask questions there, as other students may have the same questions.
For group work (e.g. working on shared Powerpoint slides, Word documents or other apps), we have a separate Teams teamsite.
Final Project
You will design a Lamp Project and a Design Mod. See the section Final Project for instructions.
