Topic outline
-
This graduate lecture course provides the theory of a fascinating phenomenon of superconductivity. Using simple and rigorous arguments the course allows a beginner to get prepared to the present-day research in condensed matter physics and nanotechnology, for which understanding of superconductivity is indispensable. The knowledge of basic principles of quantum mechanics is required.
The course includes:
- The Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory of superconductivity.
- The Ginzburg-Landau theory.
- Normal-superconducting interfaces.
- Josephson and tunneling phenomena, weak links.
- Superconducting nanostructures.
- Introduction to unconventional and topological superconductivity.
Weekly exercises. Written exam. There is no exercise session on the first week (Jan 10). The course starts with the introductory lecture on January 11.We will use Zoom for in-lecture quizzes. Please install/update Zoom client on your mobile device before the first lecture.
Please fill Start-up questionnaire before the course starts.
