    Welcome to study the rudiments of architectural research and academic thinking. In autumn 2022, this online course will contain the following elements:

    • 7 Classes at Zoom including some mini-lectures and talks by Visiting Scholars:
      • 22.9.2022 M.Sc. George Michelin (Master's Thesis)
      • 6.10.2022 Dr Hossam Hewidy (Doctoral Thesis) 
      • 3.11.2022 Dr Jyrki Tarpio, Tampere University, Faculty of Built Environment (Researcher's Work)
      • 17.11.2022 Dr Antti Pirinen, Lecturer (Interior Architecture and Design Research)
    • 1 Reflective Learning Diary about the Visiting Scholars' talks
    • Homework for the Zoom Classes:
      • 2 Text Analyses
      • 1 preparatory research case draft (nothing fancy; we'll use these in a class exercise, that's all)
    • 6 Architectural Research Book Reviews as group work
    • 6 Online Quizzes related to research in our creative design fields.


    The course yields 6 credits, but for Interior Architecture majors, there is a 3-credits version that requires the completion of the following elements:

    • 7 Classes at Zoom & The Learning Diary task as above
    • Homework for the Zoom Classes as above
    • 1 Architectural Research Book Review on Theme 6 as group work (in Group I)
    • 6 Online Quizzes as above.

    For Group Ib (Interior Architecture late arrivals), their adjusted 3-credits version is:
    • Remaining Classes at Zoom & The Learning Diary about the available talks
    • 6 Online Quizzes as above
    • Homework on MyCourses:
      • Text Analysis and Language of Argumentation as above on MyCourses
      • Class Exercise 1: Scientific vs. Professional Discourse as an individual homework; submittal by email
      • Class Exercise 3: Search & Retrieve – Analytical Reference Search as an individual homework; submittal by email
      • 1 Architectural Research Book Review on Theme 5 as individual work;submittal by email
      • 1 Peer Feedback on a groupwork Book Review Report on MyCourses
      • 1 Peer Feedback within Group Ib
