  • The aim of this module is to prepare you for carrying out your own thesis work efficiently.

    After finalizing the Master’s Thesis Review module, you

    • can search master’s theses from Aaltodoc database and can find instructions on master’s thesis from the Student Guide.
    • can explain what a master’s thesis is and are able to describe the different stages of the master’s thesis project.
    • have read the intended learning outcomes, as well as the evaluation criteria, of master’s thesis and understand how the criteria is used for thesis evaluation.
    • are familiar with the principles of reference management software and are able to start using one on your own.
    For succesfully completing the module, you should attend two instructing study sessions, read one previously published thesis, analyse it according to the instructions and write a report of your observations. The estimated workload for the assignment is: 4 h study sessions + 17 h independent work.

    • Master’s thesis (30 cr) is an important part of master’s studies (120 cr). Besides specialization on certain research question, the master’s thesis has several general learning objectives:

      • Ability to apply the principles of science in solving research problems         
        -Formulating clear and relevant research questions
        -Building on existing knowledge
        -Using scientifically relevant methodology
        -Presenting logical argumentation based on facts
      • Improved skills for exact technical and scientific communication – both written and oral
      • Increased experience in conducting an independent technical or scientific research project

      The aim of this assignment is to prepare students for carrying out their own thesis works efficiently. Please find the detailed instructions for the assignment in the file below. The submission deadline has been extended to April 29th, 2023.

      This submission box is only for the late submissions of the Thesis Review reports. The instructions for this assignment are exactly the same as for the original one. Please note that you have to write your report on a thesis published at Aalto CHEM and that the full thesis has to be available as pdf in the Aaltodoc database. Please submit your report by May 27th.
