Topic outline

  • The exams will be arranged under the Exam tab, see details from there!

Programming I will be arranged as a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), which utilises modules 1-7 of the Introduction to programming with Python course provided by the University of Helsinki. An Aalto BIZ-specific 2022 course link to the MOOC is used. The instructions how to set up the programming environment were briefed when the course launched (Wednesday, October 26, the online lecture is available below as a recording). The slide handouts for the session with step-by-step installation instructions are also available below. No previous experience from programming is needed for conducting the exercises.

The coding exercises should be completed by December 4, the night before the first exam, which is arranged by Aalto on December 5, 2022. Thus, there is a single deadline for all exercises, and 80% of each 7 exercise modules should be completed in order to proceed to the next one. You should reserve plenty of time for conducting the coding exercises (do them weekly, ca. 10-20 hours per week), as there's around 200 of them in total. The weight of the final exam is 50% of the grade. See the Syllabus for details. There are no compulsory lectures in the course, but weekly online help sessions on Wednesdays will be arranged via Zoom at 16.15 - 17.45 o'clock. If needed, in-person help sessions can also be arranged at campus. Also a Zulip chat platform has been taken in use for Q&A and peer support during the course.

In case you have any questions regarding enrolment or the course, please contact Dr. Johanna Bragge (@aalto.fi). If you have technical issues with Sisu registration, please see the FAQ in Sisu Help, or contact your program's study coordinator or general Sisu help via sisuneuvonta-biz@aalto.fi

Peer support for solving the coding problems is available throughout the course at https://37c00400.zulip.aalto.fi/. You are encouraged to discuss the solutions with other students, but you can learn coding only by doing the exercises hands-on yourself.
