    PLEASE NOTE! The exam will be arranged online (in MyCourses) in an "open book" manner (i.e., you can keep the material with you) on 13-Dec-2022. If this particular time does not fit your schedule, the next possible times to complete the exam are 22-Feb-2023 and 18-Apr-2023. You may use any of these exam times. The exam will become available in the "Assignments" section. It is arranged as an "Assignment" using "Quiz Assignments" in MyCourses.     The first lecture on the first week (Mon 24-Oct) is arranged ONLINE and the second lecture is completed by watching the pre-recorded lectures. NO ON-SITE LECTURE will take place during the first two lectures. The Zoom link to the first online lecture is https://aalto.zoom.us/j/68140876890. The second lecture is NOT INTERACTIVE, the video files of the second lecture for the students to view at are now available in the lectures and materials [link]. Lecture #4 (Wed 02-Nov) is arranged in a hybrid manner from lecture hall T1. Also, lecture #5 (Monday 7-Nov at 08:15) is arranged in a hybrid manner in  lecture hall T2 (on-site, but streamed online via Zoom) in Computer Science building.

    The completion of the course consists of lecture materials, coursebook and written material (available also online), and assignments (individual, group). For group assignments, please register your name/group using the wiki document.

    Learning Outcomes 

    At this course the students learn user interface and interaction design. After completing the course, students are able to develop an interactive user interface that can be used as a prototype or an application for usability testing. Students know how to use user-centred principles, guidelines and patterns in the design and implementation of user interfaces.

    The design and construction of interactive user interfaces. Use of basic user interface elements and style guides.

    Study Material 

    In order to improve access to learning material during Covid-19 restrictions, you may user either the book by Shneiderman & Plaisant (available from Aalto's library) or the book by Galitz (available online via Aalto's library access). In your assigments (and in the exam) you are requested to use the material as reference. Please refer clearly to the material that you have used as reference material. Also in the exam you are asked to indicate which of the books you have been using.

    Replaces former course CSE-E5820 / T-121.5300 User interface construction.

     
    Prerequisites 

    CS-C3120 Human-computer Interaction / CSE-C3800 User Interfaces and Usability or equivalent basics in user-centred design and usability.

     
    Grading Scale 

    0-5

    Passing the course requires the completion of all assignments and the exam. Assignments 1 and 2 are evaluated with "passed/failed" (you must pass). Assignment 3 is done individually (evaluated with normal scale 0-5, weight 20% of the final grade) and assignment 4 in a group (evaluated with normal scale 0-5, weight 40% of the final grade). The exam will be evaluated with normal scale 0-5 (weight 40% of the final grade).
