  • Welcome!

    Welcome to the  Design Impact II course. 

    The teachers are Prof. Teemu Leinonen,  Art Director and Graphic Designer Päivi Helander &  Industrial Designer Irina Viippola. 

    We will meet on Mondays (mornings) and Wednesdays (full days) in different classrooms. During the Vappu-week we will meet on Wednesday and on Friday May 5th we will do a field trip to Fiskars Village.

    The calendar will help you to find the right room. Please, notice that there can be some changes in the rooms, too. These will be announce during the classes.

    • WEEK 1

      Monday 24.4. 9-12: Course Introduction

      Three Work Packages and working groups, with several teams: 

      1. WP1: Magazines / Zines (Päivi) 
      2. WP2: Exhibition Design (Irina)
      3. WP3: Workshop Facilitation (Teemu)

      Everyone will learn from all the three themes and contribute to them, but for each theme there will be a a core working group responsible of three deliverables of the course.

      About designing publications, storytelling & introduction to InDesign

    • WEEK 2

      Monday 1.5. Vappu. No class.


      Wednesday 3.5. 9-17 Publication Design 2 with Päivi

      Creating a publication, basics of editorial: grids, fonts, illustrative elements


      Friday 5.5. 8-14 Field Trip to Fiskars Village 

      The bus leaves from the front of the Undergraduate Centre at 8! Bring your own lunch box. Do not miss the bus.

      Monday 8.5. Cultural and social value of design with Teemu 


      Wednesday 10.5.  Publication Design 3 with Päivi

      Deadline of the first essay draft (1000 words!)

      Deadline of visual moodboard of the editorial.

      Structuring a publication, look and feel, typography, scale and hierarchy

      Monday 15.5.  Economic / monetary value of design with Teemu


      Wednesday 17.5. Publication Design 4 with Päivi

      Producing a publication, preparing files for print

      Monday 22.5. Planetary thinking and design with Teemu

      9:15-12 Teamworking time

      13:15 Checking the status of magazine and exhibition design and co-ordinating the visuality and presentation of the publications

    • WEEK 7

      Monday 5.6. at 10.15 - 11.50: Exhibition and workshop team meeting with presentations for Irina in the FK Gallery (lobby)


      Wednesday 7.6. at 10.30 - 12.00: Exhibition and workshop team meeting with Irina & Teemu

      FRIDAY 9.6. full day: FINAL EVENT: WORKSHOP + EXHIBITION
