Topic outline


  • The course starts on Wednesday, October 25th at 8:15 with a starting lecture.

    In the starting lecture information about the course practicalities will be shared.

    The course consists of 12 lectures, two types of group assignments and a final exam.

    • In group assignment 1, you will work jointly on an essay. The essay writing accompanies the whole course and there will be deadlines for submission of draft versions. In the essay you will need to combine the different topics covered in the course into a complete story.
    • In assignment 2, you will read and analyze a part of a scientific paper with a focus on understanding and reporting the experimental procedures that were used and on the results produced. You will submit two drafts and a peer-review for this assignment.
    • In the final exam you will apply the learnings from the course to analyze scientific data that is related to the course topics.


    You can register your group for the assignment I after the first lecture on October 25th. More information for the assigments will be provided on the lectures and in Mycourses.

    • All information on course content and course work collected in one file.

    • Group work will be carried out in groups of three students. You cannot do the work alone!

      Here you can register your group for the assignment I (essay). Registration will open on October 25th and close on October 30th.

      Students that haven't registered by the deadline for a group will be placed randomly into groups. If you have registered for the course but decide not to take the course, please inform me by email.
