Topic outline

  • FROM FIBRE TO FABRIC

Fibres are the initial material of textiles - the building blocks. All fabrics are constructed from fibres by different structures and chemical or mechanical treatments. Yarn and fabric structures as well as textile finishes influence the properties of the resulting fabric.

Topics 3.1-3.3 introduces you to the basics of textile structures and finishes. Complete the topics by 18th October.

    Written Assignment 3/4

Choose a kitten or woven textile product (you can find the product from home or come up with an imaginary one). Shortly introduce the product and explain the production process from fibre to final product. What are the steps of the production process and what kind of finishes does your product undergo? How do the processes influence the properties of the product? Draw a graph of the process. Attach the text and the graph (about 1 page together) to your 2nd submission (deadline 18th October).
