Topic outline

  • The second-year Master's degree studies begin with a joint course Thesis Plan Orientation, 3cr. Lecturers Namkyu Chun and Heidi Paavilainen are teaching the course.

In the TPO, you'll learn and can talk about all the necessary moves that designing and writing a Master's Thesis takes. During the course, you will prepare (or at least are prepared to do) the Thesis Plan Proposal, with which you will present your thesis plans in your Programme/Major.

There are three steps in the course:

    1. You have the summer to do pre-assignments. Instructions can be found by clicking on the "hamburger" in the upper-left corner of this page and selecting "Step1: Pre-assignments" (link). The deadline for the pre-assignments is Friday, August 18th. You can miss this deadline, but then we, unfortunately, cannot guarantee feedback on your pre-assignments.
    2. Contact sessions take place during the Orientation week (28.8.-1.9.2023). See the programme in Step 2 page for more details (link).
    3. After the Orientation week, you will be fully equipped to write and hand in your 3-5 pages long Thesis Plan Proposal. See Step 3 page on this site for instructions (link will updated Fri 1.9.). With the Thesis Plan Proposal, you will also seek approval for your thesis topic and your plans, so you are asked to submit the same or updated proposal to your Major or Programme (CODE, COID, CS, FACT, or IDBM).

Please notice that the student has to have TPO (2023-24) in their primary Personal Study Plan in Sisu in order to register and participate in the course. Registration opens 1.8.2023.
