  • Welcome to the course ISM-C1003 Mathematical tools for analytics. The first lecture takes place on Monday 4.9. at 15:15-17:00 in lecture hall A1.

    Through Zulip, the students have the opportunity to ask questions about any of the lecture topics or the exercises. In Zulip, students may choose a custom username and thus remain anonymous from one another when asking questions.

    Completing the course: To complete the course, the students have two options to choose from:
    • Attend the mid-term exam 1 on Tue 17.10 , and complete the mid-term exam 2 in the course exam session on Mon 11.12. Mid-term exam 1 covers topics from weeks 1-6 while mid-term exam 2 covers topics from weeks 7-12.
    • Attend the course exam session on Mon 11.12. and complete the full course exam, covering topics from the entire course.

    Students can positively affect their grade by acquiring exercise points from solving the weekly exercise problems (starting from week 2). From the exercises, the students can receive up to 20% worth of points towards the final grade.

    The final grade is determined as the better of the following two alternatives:
    • Both mid-terms or the course exam, with 100% weight (no exercise points)
    • Both mid-terms or the course exam, with 80% weight and exercise points with 20% weight.

    To all exams, the students may bring one A4 cheat-sheet that is HAND WRITTEN and with markings on ONLY ONE SIDE. The students will receive calculators from the exam hall.

    Exercises: Starting from week 2, the exercise sessions are on Thu at 13-15 in period 1 and on Fri at 10-12 in period 2. The solutions are submitted for grading in MyCourses by the start of the exercise session on the following week at the latest . Late submissions are not graded.
