    • This course is an introduction to the classical theory of  curves and surfaces,  concerned with visually understandable  questions using precise mathematical formulation and  techniques from calculus: Frenet-frames, surfaces of revolution, curvature, geodesics and Gauss-Bonnet Theorem. The course is  suitable to everybody interested in mathematics and its applications. Prerequisites include basic calculus of several real variables, first year linear algebra and open curious mind. It is possible to pass the course by active participation on lectures and exercise sessions.

Lectures by Kirsi Peltonen on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10-12 M1 (M 232)  and exercise sessions  on Fridays by Lauri Särkiö  10-12 at Y405  and  by Emma Kamutta 12-14 at Y309b at Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1). Email addresses of the teaching assistants are of the form firstname.lastname[at]aalto.fi.
