Topic outline

  • Dear students,

Welcome to our Neurophysics course. The course focuses this year on looking for novel potential approaches for diagnosis or therapies for neurological or neurogenerative diseases. The studies will consist of teamwork (4-5 members per team) under the guidance by Ari and Matti. The teaching starts on Thursday, 29th of February. All the practicalities regarding the course will be discussed during the first meeting. The teaching space is on the third floor in Otakaari 3, the best way to find the hall F336 is to enter the building from Rakentajanaukio, door C, climb the stairs to the 3rd floor, and you will see the entrance door to F336 in the stairway.

The themes for this spring are:

    1.     Presurgical evaluation in epilepsy

    2.     Early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease

    3.     Novel treatment approach(es) for neuropathy

We have recently updated the learning goals for this course, and we will follow these during the course:

After taking the course, the student

    • can understand the function of neuronal systems from the perspective of physics
    • can understand the disease mechanism(s) of at least one neurological or neurodegenerative disease
    • can use the perspective of physics to understand how to develop or analyse diagnosis methods or treatment approaches for neurological or neurodegenerative diseases
    • can create a research plan
    • can read advanced literature on the topic.
