LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course provides a holistic picture of what founders and managers of modern technology based firms need to consider when establishing, managing and developing businesses. After the course you have a basic understanding of and the ability to systematically explore:

  • a modern and increasingly digital business environment, including platform and sharing economy
  • a modern technology based business organization and projects
  • basic product and process development in scalable digital businesses
  • basic entrepreneurial finance in managing new businesses
  • managing and developing human resources and related venture capabilities
  • important elements and capabilities in managing a modern technology based venture in dynamic and turbulent business environments

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The focus is on a management and development of a modern technology-based business organization. The course includes lectures on high tech firms, relevant trends, business ecosystems and markets, organization and project management, new product and process development, entrepreneurial finance and human resource development. Special emphasis is on factors of a successful business-level digital transformation strategy and the related capabilities such as organizational change management. Lectures include insights from case studies of real-world business organizations, first-hand experiences from industry guest lecturers and might include site visits to industrial and business environments. The guest lecturers, content, and the case studies vary from year to year.

Workload

    This is a 3 ECTS course (82 hours). The expected student work hours are as follows: Lectures: 12 h, individual studying and work: 22 h, and course assignments 48 h. Assignments consist of working both individually and in small teams. Individual work consists of preparing for lectures and parts of the assignments.
