CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    The course provides a foundation into the role, methods, and applications of Strategic Design.  Strategic design applies some of the principles of traditional design to "big picture" systemic challenges like health care, education, and climate change. It redefines how problems are approached, identifies opportunities for action, and helps deliver more complete and resilient solutions. The course is built around a mix of lectures, group discussions, exercises, and case study work.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Course requires 100% attendance, of which 20% can be covered with additional assignment.
    Grading based on:
    • 30% active participation
    • 40% individual assignments
    • 40% group activities

Workload

    The course includes lectures, assignments and tutoring sessions.

    Overall workload 5 ECTS = 135 hours (1 ECTS = 27 hours):

    Registration in Sisu.  Minimum number of students 5, maximum 70.

    In case the course has more students than available slots we will prioritize students in the following order:
    1. International Design Business Management (IDBM) major students;
    2. International Design Business Management (IDBM) minor students;
    3. Aalto ARTS Master’s students;
    4. Other Aalto Master's students, including exchange students and masters students from other Finnish universities*.
    *The students in this last category will be prioritized based on how their study background complements the overall class distribution, with the intent to build a diverse student group.
