LEARNING OUTCOMES

The objective of the seminar is to develop discussion and debate regarding the diverse aspects of the new media (in art and design) and its role in society at the local national level as well as within a global and international context. Participants:

1. Present their doctoral research, conference presentations, and essays. 

2. Work with an opponent during the presentation that can focus on the current state of the candidate s work and which can include data gathering techniques, theory, methods, and envisioned conclusions.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    New Media Doctoral Seminar is a forum where the diversity of disciplines and interests that make up the postgraduate research community in the Media Lab are brought together for a discussion. The seminar meets 4 times per semester. Each session includes a presenter and an opponent who is also a guest speaker. The candidate's presentation is followed by a debate with the opponent. Participants in the seminar are encouraged to ask questions and debate.

    The themes vary in every session according to the background and the work of the presenters. Presentations about special topics by invited guests and speakers sometimes augment the sessions.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Attendance and active participation are required. Students are required to prepare their own presentations and actively participate in discussions and reviews.
