LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify various components of visual arrangement (color, form, grid, scale, hierarchy) and their roles in different media and modes of expression.
2. Evaluate the parallels and tensions between tactile and digital design outcomes.
3. Consider the significance of physical place and space as a starting point for visual design, and the impact of materials, media, and technology to visual forms of expression.
4. Apply the knowledge of grids and colour schemes in design for different environments.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD
Content
valid for whole curriculum period:
The course addresses graphic design as spatial arrangement of visual elements and considers how its methods and genealogies travel across the contemporary media landscape as well as physical space. We explore the importance of spatial and haptic experience in design work and to seek new form through working with analogue references. The tactile design experience is regarded as an equal component in the world of digital design.
The course offers a chance to update your notions of basic components of graphic design such as form, scale, hierarchy, grid, and colour. You get an opportunity to refresh your graphic design skills to contemporary standards, but also to re-evaluate which of the traditional and well-established notions of aesthetic “quality” in design are relevant in current conditions, where audiences scatter, and the tactile and the digital often co-exist rather than oppose each other.
