CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    The course focuses on painting and experimenting with colours, medium and materials. The concepts and visual properties of colour are explored in relation to one's own artistic work. Use and meanings of colours are also examined in art and in the work of contemporary artists. Based on one’s own idea and plan, a painting project will be carried out. A personal learning diary is kept to document experiments and course work and to reflect on what has been learned.

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    • Attendance in contact teaching. Completion of the assigned course work by the time set by the teacher.
    • Active participation in class work, critiques, and discussions.
    • Development in artistic work and experimentation with colour, medium and materials.
    • The quality of reflection and presentation of one's own creative process. Conceptual considerations related to art and colour, as well as linking artistic interests to the broader context of art.

Workload

    Contact teaching 48 h and independent work 33 h. Supervised task-based working and independent work. Critiques and discussions.

    Registration:

    Minimum amount of participants is 8 students. Maximum amount of participants is 20 students.

    Prioritization order for admission is based on the prioritization criteria established by Aalto ARTS https//www.aalto.fi/en/services/registering-to-courses-and-the-order-of-priority-at-aalto-arts

    Students with following recommended prerecuisites fullfilled are prioritized:

    ARTS-A0115 Taiteen nykykäytännöt: Studio A and ARTS-A0116 Taiteen nykykäytännöt Studio B, or ARTS-A0124 Johdatus taiteelliseen työskentelyyn or ARTS-A0119 Contemporary Practices: Studio A and ARTS-A0120 Contemporary Practice: Studio B or ARTS-A0125 Introduction to artistic practices, or equivalent previous BA- or MA-level art studies.

    After the registration has closed, SISU conducts a raffle to allocate all the seats while considering the prioritization order stated above. Accepted students must show up on the first course day or inform the teacher in advance of absence to confirm their place in the course.
    If there are more registrants than available seats, 10 students from the remaining are drawn and placed on a waiting list in numerical order. These students are informed by e-mail. On the first day of the course, they may check for available seats. The available seats are then filled in numerical order.
