After the course the student can:

  • describe the principles of selected research instruments relevant for chemistry and materials science
  • distinguish suitable methods for research problems
  • operate selected research instruments in the laboratory
  • assess the reliability of the results
  • perform basic data analysis and interpretation

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Fundamental course on research techniques focusing on:

    • theoretical principles of typical research instruments and methods applied in the field of chemistry and materials science (X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, selected spectroscopy methods applied for elemental and structural analysis)
    • hands-on work with syntheses and laboratory instruments
    • evaluation of the reliability and limits of the obtained results

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Exam and exercises affect the grade.

    Attendance in laboratory works is compulsory.
