LEARNING OUTCOMES

When participating in the course the student will be able to develop the following knowledge and skills: 


- Ability to work in a group on an open-ended soft materials development challenge and to name and apply basic tools for research project management.


- Ability to search and identify relevant scientific literature to the challenge and make informed executive decisions based on that.


- Develop expertise and capabilities in time management of a short-term project.


- Develop knowledge and expertise in research methods, processes and techniques employed in soft materials science and applications.


- Develop knowledge and expertise in presentation and pitching skills.

- Develop knowledge and expertise in understanding the boundary conditions and constrains in materials design, for instance related to sustainability.


- Develop knowledge of the professional role of innovation, R&D, or product development manager as a career path option.

    - Independent studying and research plan preparation, 60h

    - Workshops & exercises & labwork, 30h

Assessment Methods and Criteria

    Active participation during the compulsory group working sessions, small exercises/written assignments related to group working sessions, written assignment related to reflective learning diary, preparation and presentation of final report

    Registration:

    Maximum 25 students can be accepted to the course in the following priority order 1. Chemistry and Materials Science master's programme / Functional Materials master's programme - major students 2. Students in the Doctoral Programmes of Schools of Chemical Engineering, Science and Electrical Engineering. A course implementation may be cancelled if the number of students enrolled to the course implementation does not meet the required minimum of five students. In the case of cancelled course implementations, the students enrolled to them must be provided with an alternative way of completing the course or be advised to take some other applicable course.
