SCI-A1010 - Introduction Course for Bachelor's Students, Lecture, 5.9.2024-6.6.2025

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, you:

  • are familiar with Aalto University, your own degree programme and major

  • are able to make a target-oriented study plan
  • are familiar with the services offered by the university 
  • are familiar with effective learning and study skills and are able to use them in real life
  • have improved both your academic and intercultural skills to be able to work and collaborate in a multicultural and multidisciplinary learning environment 
  • Know the principles of good study practices at Aalto university
  • Know what academic integrity is at Aalto University and how to adopt it.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    Familiarization with Aalto University, one's own field of study and its research as well as career opportunities. Introduction to the degree requirements of one's major. Planning and monitoring of studies. Personal study plan (HOPS). Well-being and coping in studies. Time management. Student's study methods and techniques. Ethical rules of study. Introduction to university information systems (Sisu, MyCourses, MyStudies). Different majors may have varying content.

    Participation in teaching and completing the required assignments.

Workload

    • Orientation week events
    • Lectures and assignments
    • Preparing a study plan for your BSc degree.
