ARTS-A0201 - Freehand Drawing, Lecture, 9.1.2024-11.4.2024

Week 8 is Aalto winter holiday / project week and we are aware that you might have overlapping courses or travels. However, we have classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Emmi is teaching both days.

If you can't join the class, you can do week 8 assignments by yourself. Time you will need: 2 x 3 hours. The assignments in the classroom are slightly easier.

Tuesday February 20: Humans

Warm up at home: 

365 astetta – Tanssi Ukrainalle (365 degrees, dance for Ukraine)

Watch the film at least 3 times and draw humans while watching it.

Assignment: HANDS

Make 2 drawings as big as possible.

• Look at your left hand and draw it with your right hand.
• Look at your right hand and draw it with your left hand.

Tuesday February 22: Metro

You will need a sketchbook and some easy tools like pencils or markers. 
You also need to have a metro ticket for AB zones (Helsinki-Espoo). Single ticket is valid for 80 minutes.

Warm up:

• Travel Aalto Yliopisto -> Matinkylä (it’s the last stop on zone AB) and draw what you see on the way.
• Stop at Matinkylä station and make one drawing there.
• Travel Matinkylä -> Keilaniemi and keep on drawing what you see.

After that you can decide if you want to draw inside metro or at the stations.

Choose one of these for longer assignment:

• Drive all the way to Vuosaari and back to Aalto. Draw things you see during the journey.
• Drive to Kamppi and draw people in metro and in the shopping centre or at café.
• Choose a station you like and draw architecture and space.

It’s easiest to draw in metro when you are together with your classmates. 

If you don’t want to do the drawings in metro, just let me know and we will find something else for you.
