Writing Assignment, Part II
4-8 page co-created group article with follow-up 15-minute group feedback session in Zoom
Completing the second writing assignment will require participants to step outside their
lab/peer-group “writing comfort zone” to co-create an informative longer article of four to
eight pages of text on a topic decided by the group members. Any supporting figures and
graphics are added as extra and must be submitted in black and white to keep file sizes small.
The final submitted document is to be in pdf format and must contain the names of the
authors and a brief description of their individual contribution to the group writing process.
Each group member has an equal voice and any attempt to “hijack” the writing process or be
over-domineering must be avoided at all costs to maximise the effectiveness of group activity.
This produces an optimal environment, whether face to face or over the Internet, which is
necessary to great the creative synergy juices flowing between the members of the group.
Do not waste this fantastic opportunity to foster your individual creative process and smallteam
collaboration skills. There are no limits to the nature of what you decide to write about
as a group, but remember this: as we will be sharing all the final articles among the
participants of the whole course (both with and without teacher comments), keep it relevant
for a wider audience and maybe focus on some pressing global issues that affect humanity.
Use an academic writing tone and choose a referencing style which you feel best suits the
format of your article. The choice of using British or American English spelling is up to the
group members.
Follow-up 15-minute group feedback sessions
Each group is provided with a 15-minute feedback/pep-talk session to review the feedback comments on this second written
assignment. The feedback/pep-talk session is compulsory and will be held in Zoom.
