Essay: Kummer's proof of Fermat's last Theorem for regular primes

The student must write a detailed essay containing Kummer´s proof of Fermat's last theorem for regular primes, following Stewarat´s textbook Chapter 11 as a guideline.

The proof, in certain level of detail, is given in Chapter 11 section 3 ans was explained in class, elaborating most of the missing details. The goal of the student hence is to review the proof, understand it and write it in full detail.

So, the essay must be a coherent elaboration of these ideas, with a focus on explaining with all rigour: lemma 11.3, lemma 11.4, lemma 11.5, lemma 11.6, lemma 11.7 and finally, Theorem 11.8 (Kummer´s proof). All the claims have to be justified, be it with an argument or with a precise reference. Theorem 10.1 is used in Lemma 11.4, so this theorem must be read by the student (not necessarily its proof) and understood by the examples provided in the book.

The extension of the essay must not exceed 5 pages. The essay must be sent by email to Iván or uploaded to this platform.
