A6 Presentation rehearsal with slides
Completion requirements
Due: Thursday, 28 February 2019, 9:00 AM
Submit your slides here BEFORE your own rehearsal meeting (A6).
Before creating the final version of their 8-10 minute presentation, each student participates in 1 rehearsal session with a small group, receiving and giving feedback, after which they analyze their own videotaped practice talk (A7).
This session is your opportunity to practice the whole presentation with the slides and a small audience, to try the equipment and get feedback from your peers. All the basic equipment will be available in the classroom.
How to prepare for the rehearsal
- Prepare your slides. It is important that you can practice realistically using the slides and how to match and synchronise your speech with the supportive visual information.
- You can use the slide template attached below or a design of your own choice.
- These slides are for your practice talk, so they don't need be completely ready or perfect yet. After the rehearsal,
you can still make any changes or improvements that you might find necessary. - Practice your talk at home a few times before this rehearsal to ensure that it remains within the given time, i.e. 8-10 minutes.
- Submit the slides for your practice talk here as A6 before the meeting.
The rehearsal session
- Come on time, ready to present and give feedback to the other speakers.
- You will work in small groups of 3-4 students.
During the talk, the audience will focus on specific features of the presentation according to given guidelines (attached below).
After each talk, the group will have 15-20 minutes for discussing the presentation and giving feedback. - Video record your own rehearsal (you can use your phone). If you need a recording device, please ask me. The purpose of the videotaping and the self-analysis is to help you take an analytical look at your own performance and use your own observations in addition to the feedback from your peers to improve the presentation when preparing for the final conference.
Bring to the rehearsal
- Your visuals on a data stick, so that you can actually practice giving the presentation once through with the visuals, even in case of connection problems.
- Your laptop.
After the rehearsal
- Watch your own video, analyze and consider how to improve (A7).
- Based on your own observations and feedback you received from your peers, finalize the talk to be presented in one of the conference.
