Aalto Task 1: Analysis / Investigation
Aalto students develop speciality in a field or theme and tutor other students in the later stages of the course from this viewpoint.
1.a) Literature and case study analysis
Research aimed to help the design task:
Group 1: sociology
social and wellbeing innovations: social sustainability, human-based convivial and empathic design;
new service concepts: culture of sharing and co-creating value
Group 2: cultural production
spatial programming and temporary uses
transient architecture and pop-up facilities
pavillion architecture
Group 3: sustainability
the change of outdoor areas for activities, liveability, walkability, the concept of a street and retrofitting modernist traffic areas
urban environments as living labs and experimental laboratories
Group 4: business
business models for temporary uses: strategic design, design management and branding
Group 5: cultural heritage
ground floor spaces: opening to outside and expanding public function, connecting pavillions and existing spaces
adaptive reuse and heritage
Submission:
Research text, 3-16 pages
Presentation, 3-10 slides
1.b) Site analysis
Study of the campus, its future plans and the interests of the stakeholders, with own reflections. Each group gets one of the following topics. In case there are more topics than groups, groups will take several topics so that all topics become covered.
