Exercise 3. Deadline 02.10.20
Exercise 3. Q U A L I T I E S
BASED ON THE GROUP DISCUSSIONS IN THE TWO PREVIOUS FRIDAYS AND YOUR SITE VISITS, PLEASE, COME UP WITH FIVE (5) QUALITIES/CHARACTERISTICS THAT YOU CONSIDER IMPORTANT IN THE FUTURE PLANNING OF THE VANTAA PROJECT AREA.
Topics: Perceived and conceived qualities. Location-driven demands or deficiencies. Planning goals.
Duration: ca. 20 min /// Format: Individual work /// Product: Aerial photo/map with five quality definitions pointing to a specific location/area.
How to: As we discussed about your group work last Friday (25.09), it is easy to fall back into using a terminology that is too generic and ambiguous to be connected to the specificity of any locations in the project area. Come up with five constructs (qualities) that you find useful in further developing our Vantaa project area. The aim is to create a word cloud among all students, so the words you choose don’t have to be expressions of the entire project area, but instead your own reflections that are tangible enough to describe the development needs/aims of a specific location.
If you are puzzling with the generality of the term, you may refer to the image below that introduces the idea of the indefinite boundary between abstract concepts and tangible constructs. The qualities you chose do not have to be one single word and should explain a quality/ feature YOU consider important.
Where: Choose the place according to your personal interest in Vantaa project area. This assignment must be in a single document and uploaded to your personal work in up.aalto.fi/
Deadline: Friday 02.10.2020.
