Assignment 1: Research Problem
Our first assignment focuses on the formulation of a meaningful research problem related to computational modeling, and your paper in particular.
Introduction: "Research problem" refers to knowledge required to understand something or to solve a constructive problem. Research problem in HCI is a stated lack of understanding about some phenomenon in human use of computing, or stated inability to construct interactive technology to address that phenomenon for desired ends [1]. I leave it up to you to define what you mean by it and to determine one or few candidates.
Task: Look at your paper and think about what are some open research problems related to the model described? What is the most relevant open problem that needs to be solved toward improving the model's validity or applicability? Formulate and write up your research problem based on that.
Instructions:
1) Open an Overleaf account using your Aalto account. Familiarize with Overleaf. Then open a project page. Use the ACM default template. (See chi2021.acm.org if unsure.) Clean up the document from content examples.
2) Insert Title and an overall structure for your paper with: Abstract, Introduction, Related Work, Approach, Results, Discussion as sections (you can change this later)
3) To Introduction, add 1) a description of the computational modeling topic (e.g., what is saliency) and 2) your research problem. (You can also propose two problems if unsure at this stage.) Length: 2-4 paragraphs max.
4) Submission to MyCourses: Submit a link to your Overleaf project by Wednesday evening.
5) Be ready to present and discuss next ThursdayREFERENCES
