Topic outline

  • General

This is the first half of the Intermediate Microeconomics course at Aalto. The course is taught by Marko Terviö. The course assistant is Eero Mäenpää.

The second half is taught in period 2, see https://mycourses.aalto.fi/course/view.php?id=33229Make sure to read the syllabus carefully before registering for this course (link in the side panel at MyCourses).

Classroom lectures take place at Otakaari 1 at lecture hall U1 with the exception of Friday 09-17 at A1. (Click on the event code, e.g. L01, in the side panel Calendar to display the room information) Period 1 lectures will also be streamed, the link will appear on the Lectures page.

    Impact of COVID restrictions

Lectures in period 1 will be given in hybrid form: lecture takes place in the classroom, but is also streamed live online. I do hope that as many as possible join us in the classroom!

In case the ongoing Corona virus pandemic causes further changes to course policies, an announcement will be sent via MyCourses.

    • Textbook

Note on the textbook, Intermediate Microeconomics by Hal Varian. There are many editions and usually an older edition is just as good for the purposes of this course. (Older versions tend to be cheaper in the used book market!) The chapter numbering in the course schedule refers to the 9th edition. The recommended version is the one with "with Calculus" in the title.  If you are majoring in economics, I highly recommend that you obtain a personal copy for reference in your future studies (Amazon link). However, you may find the version without calculus more useful, if your objective is to merely pass the class.
