Week 6 prelecture assignment
This week we will delve deeper in to Feynman diagrams. For the prelecture assignment, please watch the following PBS SpaceTime video:
The actual physical processes and the corresponding Feynman diagrams in our course differ quite a bit from the ones in particle physics. Think about the diagrams discussed in the PBS SpaceTime video, and the scattering processes we have so far discussed in our course. But don't worry about the challenge question at the end of the video yet -- we will work on that together in this week's teaching session.
1. Interparticle interaction in PBS SpaceTime diagrams is mediated by the photon exchange. What do you think is the key difference with condensed-matter interparticle interaction?
2. Also, in PBS SpaceTime diagrams, the virtual particle-antiparticle pairs can be created in intermediate states. What would be the corresponding analogy in condensed matter systems? (You can pick your favority system.)
