  • MUO-E0022 Design Culture Now

    V Period. 3 ECTS (81 hours).
    Independent study: 58.5 hours.

    Note on  Catch-up Work.

The Course's attendance requirement is minimum 80%, where 20% absence is equivalent to 1 session or 2 half-sessions. Only in extraordinary circumstances a student's attendance may be allowed to fall below what is required; in such a case, submitted Catch-up Assignments, as indicated on MyCourses, will count also toward re-establishing the minimum 80% of attendance required for passing the Course. If you miss more than two sessions, then please contact the Responsible Teacher, guy.julier@aalto.fi to discuss your situation.

If you miss more than one session in Weeks 1-4, you should undertake catch-up work for the relevant session you missed. Familiarise yourself with the one-pager summary, lecture slides and readings that are provided in MyCourses for the week you missed.

Make sure that you understand the keywords that are given for each lecture. This may require you to undertake additional research. It would certainly mean that you use the suggested reading in the one-pager.

Choose two keywords from the lecture as given in each one-pager summary. For each keyword you choose, present a written and visual discussion of it, summarising what you understand by it and discussing an example in contemporary design culture of your own in relation to it. Each summary and discussion should be about 250-400 words and illustrated with your own images, preferably. It should be carefully and clearly presented with due attention to quality of writing and overall layout and signposting. Provide references using the APA style where necessary.

Submit this  by email as a single PDF with a cover page containing your name and student number to your group tutor.

If you miss a session in Weeks 5 or 6 then your Seminar Group tutor will set you catch-up work according to their discretion.

You may only do catch-up work twice. After that you will be required to undertake the full remote version. Catch-up work must be submitted to you group tutor within two weeks of the missed session.
