LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completing this course, the students are familiar with the current trends in housing studies defined by sustainable housing design practices. In this context, the students learn how to critically evaluate the transferability of research findings into practices, and how research plans are developed in a manner relevant to professionals working in the field of housing design and development.

CONTENT, ASSESSMENT AND WORKLOAD

Content

    This course focuses on the current trends in housing studies (for example, adaptability and flexibility, housing preferences) examined in the framework of sustainable housing design practices. Focusing on research methods and the ways of analysing data (for example, floor plans and typologies, interviews and design games), the course examines how research findings can be applied when developing housing and living environments mainly in the Nordic context.

    Assessment is based on final reflection and participation in classroom discussions.




Workload
  • valid for whole curriculum period:

    Lectures and collaborative teachings methods (classroom discussions etc.). Weekly assignments (reading and commenting texts) and final reflection where the students can focus on their own development areas.  Seven lectures (14 hrs) and independent work: weekly assigments and reflection (67 hrs) = 81 hrs
