Course contents
- Lignocellulose raw materials and sources; availability of wood globally and in Finland; wood structure
- Lignocellulose pretreatment methods; wood chip impregnation
- Fractionation technology and chemistry: main emphasis on kraft pulping but acid sulfite and organosolv pulping will be overviewed
- Oxygen delignification and bleaching technology and chemistry
- Fundamentals of chemical recovery and energy processes
- Environmental regulation; effluents, emissions
- Pulp properties
- Cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, extractives applications
- Simulation exercises (Matlab)
The course includes an exam. Grading is based on the exam result combined with the assessment of the simulation exercises. This document contains recommended literature to study for the exam.
