Course contents
The course utilizes a problem-based learning concept. Starting from the concept design developed in the MEC-E1004 - Principles of Naval Architecture (PNA) course, the students outline the drawbacks and improve the ship design (preliminary design). The skills and knowledge accumulated during M.Sc. studies are utilized.
Students demonstrate independent work, critical judgment, engineering thinking, and good teamwork. The assignments are carried out in groups of 3-5 students, preferably the same as in the PNA course. The final project is presented at the end of the course to experts from industry and academia.
The Ship Design Portfolio course includes workshops, computer classes (NAPA workshop), and Marine Technology Gala (Final Project presentation to industry representatives). The written assignments include mid-term progress reports, workshop and gala presentations, and final project report. The existing report template from the PNA course is utilized.
The course starts on 13th January 2023 at 10:15
The student's participation in the first lecture and workshop is necessary to agree on efficient and smooth working methods for each participant. The course content, project assessment, scheduling, and grading are discussed. Furthermore, the project groups are agreed.Course Schedule
