Practise English rhythm and stress
Find a text with an audio and transcript to train your ear and practice the rhythm of English. Pay attention to intonation, and the variation of weak/strong forms and stressed/unstressed syllables in speech.
For example, English-Language-Learning: Listen & read offers a nice selection of different types of texts with audio and two listening speeds. Go to http://esl-bits.net/ , choose an interesting topic from the intermediate (B1-B2) or advanced category to read and listen to.
Here's one suggestion how you can use these texts to practise English pronunciation:
1) Listen to the whole text and, as you listen, underline or note down phrases or words that you would
like to learn to pronounce better (make a copy of the script for you if necessary).
- Go to an online dictionary and practise the individual words you selected.
2) Listen to the whole text again and choose a paragraph or a short section of the text (e.g. 6-10 lines) for practising intonation, sentence rhythm in connected speech.
- Practise by pausing the audio and repeating a sentence/part of sentence at a time.
- Practise by reading the text simultaneously with the recording, at the same pace with the reader.
Imitate the rhythm and intonation.
